The McGlothlin Award-winning Teachers for 2000
In separate ceremonies in October, 2000, the McGlothlin Foundation of Bristol, Virginia awarded two $25,000.00 checks as the prize for the McGlothlin Awards for Teaching Excellence. The recipients were Jenna Swann, 5th Grade Teacher at Price's Fork Elementary School in Montgomery Co. and David Carroll, Earth Science Teacher at Pulaski County High School. A stipulation of the prize was that $10,000.00 be spent on international travel.

Ms. Swann took a 3-month trek through India and Nepal. Her 5th grade students at Prices Fork Elementary School in Montgomery Co. followed her progress through e-mails from Ms. Swann chronicling her journey. Blue Ridge PBS posted her letters to this website, extending the learning experience to thousands of classrooms. Read more about her journey.

David Carroll, Science teacher at Pulaski Co. High School took a mountaineering team to the Northern Cascades in Washington to practice mountain climbing. Eventually, he hopes to climb the Andes in Bolivia. Read more about this "Excellent Adventure."
