Congratulations
to these teachers and their schools.
They are the winners of the 2003 McGlothlin Awards for
Teaching Excellence -- two prizes of $25,000.00 each, awarded
annually to one K-5 public school teacher and one 6-12 public
school teacher. Established
in March 2000 by the McGlothlin Foundation, The McGlothlin
Awards are among the largest awards for the recognition of
teaching excellence in the United States.
A stipulation of the awards is that $10,000.00 of the
$25,000.00 prize is to be used for international travel to
broaden the thinking and experience of the winning teachers,
further enhancing their excellence as professional educators in
a global society.
The awards were presented September
4, 2003 at Radford University
during the McGlothlin Celebration of
Teaching, an afternoon-to-evening
event with workshops, an “Images of
Teaching” photography exhibit, guest
speakers, and more.
Keynote speaker for the event was storyteller Donald
Davis.
The 2003 McGlothlin Celebration of
Teaching was sponsored by The
McGlothlin Foundation, Blue Ridge
PBS, and Radford
University.
Special thanks go to Tom McGlothlin and the McGlothlin Foundation for making this important recognition of teaching excellence possible. The McGlothlin Awards for Teaching Excellence are administered by Blue Ridge PBS's Education
Services Department.
