In order to save money (and trees) we now have virtually all of our publications on the Blue Ridge PBS website: www.blueridgepbs.org  Don't look for your copy of the ITV schedule book. Come to the website and find these GREAT classroom resources:

  • ITV program titles and series/episode descriptions

  • Virginia SOL correlations, program descriptions and broadcast schedule in an easy to use database

  • ITV Broadcast Calendar

  • NTTI Lesson plans to download, use and share

  • The McGlothlin Awards

  • JASON Project

  • Family Literacy

  • The monthly Electronic Sundial with news you can use!

II.   School or Division Media Centers
Many schools and/or school divisions provide ITV tape libraries and series teacher's guides for their teachers.
III.  Teacher's Guide
All instructional television programs are designed for classroom use; thus their producers have designed teacher's guides with suggestions for utilization. Many teachers' guides are already available in your school library. They are a good resource for locating a program. If you know of a program and its guide is not available, check into the possibility of a personal or school purchase. Often teacher's guides are on-line or are available for a nominal fee from ITV distributors.
IV.  Curriculum Correlations
Here are some ways to find ITV programs that suit your curriculum.
  • Ask the librarian/media specialist at your school. Usually she/he is familiar with library resources including ITV videotapes.
  • Ask the ITV K-12 specialist(s) at your local public TV station for suggestions. Often, he/she has screened programs for inclusion in the schedule and can best help you locate a program in the schedule that suits a particular topic or concept.
  • Ask your RSCPC representative for information. The "Regional Schools Contracting and Planning Committee" has a representative from each school division, all of whom have personal knowledge of or access to information about programs.
  • Watch for special curriculum area suggestions in your Educational Services monthly newsletter. (Blue Ridge PBS's newsletter is called the Sundial.) Typically these are mailed to your librarian/media specialist.
  • Search the ITV/SOL database. The database contains all of the ITV titles along with correlations to Virginia's Standards of Learning.
  • It is recommended that you PREVIEW taped programs prior to use in order to use the medium as interactively as possible.
