The McGlothlin Awards for Teaching Excellence 2014 Winners
Two of the Blue Ridge region’s outstanding teachers are richer by $25,000.00 and will take the international trips of their dreams as the 15th annual McGlothlin Awards for Teaching Excellence winners. Thomas D. McGlothlin, President of the McGlothlin Foundation of Bristol, VA presented them with checks and trophies April 10, 2014 in an evening ceremony at Radford University’s Bondurant Auditorium. Four runners-up each received $1,000.00 and smaller trophies.
The 2014 McGlothlin Award recipients are:
Steven Cregger, is the art teacher at High Point Elementary School in Washington County, VA. He is finishing his sixth year at the school. Cregger is a 2007 graduate of Virginia Intermont College. He endeavors to link art with core curriculum with his students every day. Cregger will travel to Europe to see and study the classical masterpieces first hand.
The secondary level winner, Susan Hampton, teaches 8th grade English and Reading at Virginia Middle School in Bristol, VA. Hampton holds a B.A. from King College and an M.S. in Educational Leadership from Radford University. In addition to teaching English, Hampton developed and teaches video production which airs WVMS News daily. Hampton will travel to Finland, Denmark, Australia and New Zealand to study their educational philosophy and techniques.
